PBMA Bicycle Mechanic Certification Part I
Part I is an online assessment focused on basic mechanical knowledge and the technical safety of the bicycle, you may attempt this test a 10 times within 5 days of purchase. We strongly recommend you have two years of in-shop experience working on a variety of bicycles.

You are allowed 90 minutes to complete this assessment and must pass with a score of 90% or better on this 50-question exam.

Upon successful completion of the online assessment you will have the opportunity to download a completion certificate, you will receive an email with your results and will be redirected to Certification Part II (bookmark the link if you are not ready to schedule)

PBMA Members receive $20 off the $25 online assessment fee, by using the button below you will be prompted to login to your PBMA account to access the discounted test.
Certification Part I - Non-Members $25

PBMA Certification Part II
Consists of an in-person test composed of assembling a test bicycle from SRAM Road parts on a table utilizing Park Tools. The focus is on technique, torque and precision. The ultimate goal is that the bicycle is safe to operate,  torque is correct on critical safety elements and the bicycle functions per the manufacturers standards.

Those individuals who want to take the next step may sign up for an in-person exam. Exam locations at the CABDA Expo nearest you Once you have completed Part I you will have access to the purchasing and scheduling of Part II.  

PBMA Certification Part II has a cost of $200, PBMA Members have access to a $150 discount code when they login to their PBMA Member Account and navigate to the discounts page.

​You are allowed a maximum of 90 minutes to complete the process this in-person process and must have a score of 90% or better. Prior to testing the instructor will cover the process and goals. Instructor to test taker ratio is 1:2. Upon completion of the process the instructor will evaluate the build and provide a one-on-one review of the grading process. In total you should allow for 2 - 2.5 hours for the testing process.
